oops! just pulled it out and listened to it, and it appears that you are right and i am ... not right! it sounds live-and-unrehearsed-in-the-studio, which i guess my brain somehow scrambled into thinking it was live. it even starts with studio chatter -- paul laughing and saying, "hey bob, come on in here and put on a guitar."

i said "one of their best" and yes, absolutely! i'd say their three best are "let it be," "hootenanny" and "shit hits the fans." they were so much better with bob stinson than without him it isn't even funny. the more and more they sounded like paul-plus-backing-musicians, instead of like a band, the less and less i liked 'em.
