Although written by a Brit (or is it two, in collaboration with one of the Squeeze guys?), Elvis Costello's "Town Crier" contains what I have assumed is an American football reference, the "I'm a little down with a lifetime to go" line. Or maybe that's a rugby reference??? I have no idea how that game works.
