I'm no David Bash ;-) when it comes to lists, but here goes:

FAVORITE 20 OF 2003

1. Matthew Sweet - Kimi Ga Suki
2. Pernice Bros - Yours, Mine and Ours
3. The Bangles - Doll Revolution
4. Fountains of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers
5. The Crayons - What Color are You
6. American Suitcase - Summerman
7. The Jayhawks - Rainy Day Music
8. Josh Rouse - 1972
9. Liz Phair - S/T
10. The Thorns - S/T
11. JTG Implosion - All the People...
12. Michael Carpenter - Kings Rd Works
13. Chris Von Sneidern - The Wild Horse
14. Owsley - The Hard Way
15. Splitsville - Incorporated
16. Hall and Oates - Do It For Love
17. Blue Rodeo - Palace of Gold
18. Pete Yorn - Day I Forgot
19. Gigolo Aunts - Pacific Ocean Blues
20. Honeydogs - 10,000 Years

FAVORITE SONGS OF 2003

1. The Crayons - Allison Fell Off the Bike (for some reason this song reminds me of "Maybe I'll Go Today" by Dreams So Real, another fave of mine)
2. American Suitcase - Change
3. Fountains of Wayne - All Kinds of Time
4. Hall and Oates - Someday We'll Know

FAVORITE REISSUES/COMPS/BEST THAT WERE ACTUALLY RELEASED

1. Lolas - Silver and Gold
2. Windbreakers - Time Machine
3. Teenage Fanclub - 4766 Seconds
4. Dumptruck - D is For, Positively, and For the Country
5. Gladhands - Once Upon a Song
6. Shake Yer Pop Boomerang

FAVORITE REISSUES THAT NEVER MADE IT PAST MY CD BURNER

1. The Wishniaks - All Dressed Up and Nowhere To Go + 6. Mitch Easter produced this short, but sweet masterpiece on Munster Records. I still fire up "Two Dannys" and "Wake Up, Tracey Paul" on mix cds and in my mp3 player while jogging. Tacked on the "Tickertape Trash" single, b/w "River", and "Thirteen" (Big Star), "Now" (Plimsouls), "Magic in the Air (Sonny Bono), "Lost my Place (Andrew solo). Makes for one great listen.

2. Tommy Keene - Strange Alliance +3. Raw, but you can really hear shades of what was to come in songs like "I Can't See You Anymore" and "Strange Alliance". Added "Back to Zero Now" b/w "Mr. Roland" from the bonus single, and "The Heart" from a comp issued around the same time.

3. Dreams So Real - Father's House +10. Massively influenced by Peter Buck (or was it the other way around), contains one of my fave pop songs of all time, "(Maybe I'll Go) Today". Added "Everywhere Girl" b/w "Whirl" single, plus demos (mostly from the Nocturnal Omissions Fanclub CD) "Today", "Heaven", "History", "Our Own Backyard", "Capitol Mall", "Up to Fate", "Window" and "Red Lights".

4. Primitons - S/T, Happy All the Time, and Don't Go Away ep. All squeezed on one cd. One of many cool bands that recorded for What Goes On records. "All My Friends" still rocks.

5. Something Happens - Been There, Seen That, Done That. This may be out on cd somewhere, but I can't find it. Dated in spots (like a poorman's U2), but still has a good jangle, rock vibe.

maybe someday a kind, caring label will find a home for these worthy tunes.

Take it easy.

Mike
