I wouldn't say that this album was quite as bad as THE DOCTOR -- though it's
in BUSTED/WOKE UP WITH A MONSTER TERRITORY. Personally, I really liked the
song "Best Friend" -- it's simply blustery menace, but it's such a great
showcase for Robin. It would have fit well on their previous album, which,
BTW, has only risen higher in my estimation. SPECIAL ONE shows how a long
lay off can affect a band -- there is no focus whatsoever to it. Pop songs,
hard rock songs, one off experiments, with no cohesive shape to the whole
affair. What made this such a disappointment is that their 1997 release was
not only so strong, but it seemed to show that the band had remembered what
made them great in the first place.
