I don't think anyone doubts that there are artists in the Christian rock
genre who are exploitationist -- yes, people exploit faith for money. But
exploiting things for money is the way of the record industry -- heck, it's
just the business world in general.

So this thread basically boils down to folks comfort level with hearing
faith-based lyrics. And we ultimately come to the unremarkable conclusion
that it's a sliding scale.

As Bruce noted, this thread periodically pops up here every year or two. To
the extent that if makes Auditeers think, it's alright. But a lot of the
posts end up being a series of personal declarations.

The one other observation I have comes from something Stewart wrote that I
think has been echoed in other posts -- I don't need someone telling me what
they think is right and others are wrong. As someone who falls in the
atheist/agnostic camp myself (yes, I'm unsure about being unsure or utterly
doubtful), I get what is being said.

Yet, the sentiment could be read as only wanting waffling. Going from
"Jesus is the Savior" to "Jesus is the Savior...maybe?" wouldn't really be
preferable, would it. (This is a perfect chance to throw in a reference to
the brilliant Mr. Show 'Jeepers Creepers' skit, where Jack Black plays a
slacker god who may be the Messiah...or not). Shouldn't artists have strong
convictions? Should Tom Robinson have been less forceful in his pro-gay
songs? Should The Clash have also sung songs from right wing viewpoints?

Me, I'm just pleased when I hear songs that have strong lyrical content --
it's not a requirement for me, but it sure adds to the experience.
