I'm cobbling this year's list together with even less thought than usual, so
some of the rankings are arbitrary (except for the top stuff). I'm still
catching up on a lot of stuff I haven't gotten around to (I haven't heard The Soul
Engines yet, and I've only heard two tracks from The Singles, for example),
but this is where I'm at now:

1. THE FLASHCUBES: Brilliant
My all-time favorite power pop band--seriously, the 'Cubes rank with
The Beatles and The Ramones in my personal pop cosmology--finally release a
proper album, and it lives up to what I've always thought a Flashcubes album
should be. Awesome--when I've gone to see The Flashcubes live over the years,
this is how they've sounded in my head.

2. THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS: Electric Version
3. THE CHARMS: Charmed, I'm Sure
4. MR. ENCRYPTO: Secret Identity Crisis
5. OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY: Supernatural Equinox
6. DANNY McDONALD: Summer City
7. THE FLASHCUBES: Live In Japan--Raw Power Pop
8. THE WAKING HOURS: The Good Way
9. THE ORGONE BOX: Things That Happened Then
10.THE EXPLODING HEARTS: Guitar Romantic

FAVE TRACKS:

OUTKAST: "Hey Ya!" Absolutely my song of the year
ANNY CELSI: "Empty Hangers"
THE FLASHCUBES: "When We Close Our Eyes"
MR. ENCRYPTO: "Rock And Roll Is Killing Me (Loudly)"
THE SINGLES: "He Can Go, You Can't Stay"
THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS: "All For Swinging You Around"
STYX: "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye"
FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE: "Stacey's Mom"
THE CHARMS: "Top Down"
OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY: "Girl, You Have Magic Inside You"

FAVE UNRELEASED TRACK:

THE FLASHCUBES: "Carl (You Da Man)"
This will be on the forthcoming Dana & Carl sampler album, THIS IS
ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO, VOLUME 1. And if YOU'RE favorite band ever writes a song
about YOU, see if you don't feel all giddy inside, as well!
