Nonono, to clarify I was really referring more to smaller stores (far smaller
than the one I work for) where the staff might only be, I dunno, two people
at midday, if even that. If we're talking about mom-and-pops, there very well
might only be one working... that's what I meant. I've actually seen some
smallish mall stores (Claires, those stores that sell baseball hats... those both
come to mind) close so that their lone employee could have a break or use the
restroom.
I already responded to the whole closing mid-day thing (my store has never
done this, but we're a lot larger than Plastic Fantastic and we don't have that
many meetings, either). You're probably right that I'm comparing a bag of
apples to oranges, but it's probably triggered by an intimate knowledge of how
thinly places like these are hanging on... which is why, at least at the moment,
I know to have more patience with these indie record stores. --Jason
