Sorry that I'm reviewing a large group of messages and not combining my
reply, but...lunches? If you can't stagger lunches, then close for an hour
ON A REGULAR BASIS. Please don't make this about taking the food out of the
mouth of a low-paid employee. And if there were a personal emergency that
required someone to leave, and the store was so thin-staffed that it
couldn't get by short one body, and there was no other option to close, then
yes, I'd imagine that you'd have to close. But...you said it was a meeting.
The other remarks about the decline of brick and mortar, asshole customers,
low margins, theft, minimum wage and other issues are all good points and I
understand them; I just think you're defending oranges with a bag of apples.
I both worked in and managed a record store, and remember what a complete
pain in the ass it could be (and also how much fun it was, albeit in a
different era). I also worked in and managed a bar, where the issues you
bring up are magnified (asshole customers versus drunk asshole customers who
are PACKING...) so I'm not unsympathetic to the plight. I'm watching a
legendary local 2-store chain struggle mightily and see what they (and
probably you, Jason) are going through and it ain't pretty.
cheers
