There wasn't that much of a gap -- the Beatles were on Sullivan in early 
1964, while the Monkees debuted on NBC in the fall of 1966, and the band 
picked out a ways beforehand.  A young-er Davy Jones might be a better way 
to put it.  And perhaps shorter, though that's hard to conceive...
