I have to retract a statement I've made a few times on these lists.
When the first details of Elliott Smith's death came out, somebody told
me that they had just seen an episode of the TV show Law & Order in which
a murder was covered up to look like a suicide by self-inflicted stab
wounds to the chest, and that it had aired during the week before Elliott
died.
I did try to verify this information before posting it, but I couldn't
find the episode quickly and gave up.
It turns out that the reason I couldn't find the episode was that I was
searching for it the way it had been related to me. The episode did
feature a story about an actress who had been stabbed to death in a
musician's home. But there were apparently enough stab wounds to make it
clear that it was not suicide.
And to make matters worse for my little conspiracy theory, while the
episode was supposed to air on 10/15 (during the week prior to his
death), it was bumped by a post-season baseball game. The episode
finally aired on 10/22, by which time Elliott had been dead for several
hours.
Sorry to pass on bad information! And thanks to Chris on the Jellylist
for pointing out the inaccuracies.
