Some of my very favorite music is deeply spiritual. Not necessarily
religious. Generally not religious. But deeply spiritual. Santana's
"Transcendence." U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'mLooking For." Todd's
"Initiation."

I think there is a difference between prosleyzing and singing about the joy
your faith brings you. I can slap on some Gospel and be totally moved by
it. Great soulful singers belting it out for the Lord. But trying to
convert me, or damn me if I don't share the belief-- that's just a downer.
Move along. Talk to the hand.

I'd draw this analogy. We all love power pop songs about how the singer
loves the girl. Maybe there's a whole album about how the singer loves the
girl. All well and good. But how would we react if the album preached
thatt WE must also love the girl? Me, I'd probably be put off (although
Frank Bango's "Clear Eye for Daisy" kind of comes close, and it is pure ear
candy.)
