REISSUES, COMPS, AND NEW DISCOVERIES
Judee Sill - s/t (1971) Rhino Handmade
Judee Sill - Heart Food (1973) Rhino Handmade
These Judee Sill albums are truly the best thing I heard all year.
An amazing singer/songwriter who plays guitar and piano better
than James Taylor and Elton John combined. Her melodies are
simply unearthly, and the arrangements and production are nothing
short of perfect. If Brian Wilson, Gram Parsons and Joni Mitchell were
all one person, it would be Judee Sill. Highly, highly, recommended.
Fading Yellow - Vol. 6 & Vol. 7
Great Psych-Pop collections, especially Vol. 7.
Kasenetz-Katz Super Circus (1968)
This is the best garage/pop/bubblegum/psych album I've heard in a long
time. 'Quick Joey Small' is just genius, and all the other tracks are great
too.
BEST CONCERTS OF 2003
Simon & Garfunkel
The Zombies
Steely Dan
The Thrills
Thanks to Bryan Thomas for introducing me to many of the
selections on my list this year. He's a good friend, and best
of all, he likes to share.
Have a good year everyone!
