I haven't finished compiling my 2003 list yet and this band is one of the
reasons why :-). Some of you might even revise their lists ;-). The CD came
out this fall and you can get it through Paisley Pop or Not Lame. I finally
saw these guys on Saturday night. My friends and I had to leave early
unfortunately ; we were still tired from Friday's pop show. They had a song
on a Pop Culture Press comp CD from March of this year. I didn't get around
to listening to it until last week. Below is a description from the Paisley
Pop website...

The Rite Flyers are among Austin's best-kept secrets.
For the last few years, they've been off in their home studio, honing a new
brand of kaleidoscopic pop, but sharp music fans will recognize the band's
frontmen: Steve Collier led perhaps Austin's most raucous, fiery guitar band
of the '80s - Doctor's Mob; John Clayton was a key member and songwriter for
Balloonatic, a psychedelic wonder brimming with unforgettable songs. Heading
into the '90s, the duo joined forces, forming the late, lamented
Sidehackers, and kept on writing, landing "Me and the Bean" on Spoon's
fabulous Girls Can Tell album. Produced in association with Spoon's Jim Eno,
reveal a sackful of sparkling pop/psych gems. Veering from pure rhythmic
crunch ("Easily Amused") to gorgeous floating balladry ("I Want To Tell You
How I Feel"), clanging, rainy-day rockers ("The Politics of Misery") to
irresistibly rendered power pop ("Skyscraper"), the Rite Flyers remind you
of everything that's important about pop music - immediacy, unfettered
melodicism, lyrical acuity, and instrumental flourishes painting each song
with a hard-won emotional complexity.
