I just got this release that is a tribute to the sound track to Hedwig and
the Angry Inch. It is a fund- raiser for the Harvey Milk School.
There are some very fun things on it. There are some other spotty things
as well which is typical of these type of projects.
Some Highlights:
Jonathan Richman singing the Origin of Love (reprise), as only he can
deliver it.
Ben Kweller, Ben Folds and Ben Lee doing wicked Little Town. The
arrangement is very Ben Folds. Nice.
Cyndi Lauper and the Minus 5 covering Midnight Radio is pretty cool.
Rufus Wainwright opens the tribute with the Origin of Love. A good match
of artist and material.
Sleater-Kinney and Fred Schneider wave it up on Angry Inch. This could
have been a B-52's song from the good ole days.
And yes, Yoko Ono and Yo Le Tango go totally wavy on Hedwig's Lament. The
material actually suits Yoko's voice to a tee, and I not a fan of her
voice.
But the greatest treat is the Polyphonic Spree's take on Wig in a Box (I
put on my make up....). They go for complete lounge and camp. It is
cheesy in a wonderful way.
If you are so inclined, check it out. Like, for sure.
Regards, Tom
