This is where the distinction is arbitrary -- I think generally an LP
consists of around 10 songs or so, and clocks in between 25 and 40 minutes
(and now longer, thanks to the CD). EPs are usually 8 or less (more often
in the 4 to 6 tune range) and are about 15 - 25 minutes long. There is
certainly an area where they blur.
When a record falls in that blurry area, I suppose if an artist calls an EP
an EP, then it's an EP. The Ryan Adams sitch is different -- it was the
record company who decided to break it in pieces. But they called them
EPs...
