Sounds like you think their only albums are the last two, but their discography is at least twice as large, including two previous full-length albums, TELEPHONO and A SERIES OF SNEAKS. I actually prefer their earlier, Wire-like sound, though the last two, poppier releases (GIRLS CAN TELL and KILL THE MOONLIGHT) are far more consistent than their predecessors.

Back to Stewart for a moment:

They were another band you saw give a subpar live performance, right? I've only seen them live once, opening for the Loud Family in Memphis in '98, but they were on fire that evening (and Britt Daniel was a stone cold Scott Miller fan, sticking around for the LF and singing along with every song), so I've had that very positive experience to put with their albums. I'd urge you to give them another shot if you haven't already -- if you'd never opined about them in public, I would have pegged them as a band you'd probably like a lot!

later,

Miles
