The thing about the Beatles albums, though, is that you really have to
separate the US (and other nations) from the UK with respect to releases.
They generally put out singles in the UK, and excluded the singles from the
albums; the day Beatles for Sale came out, for example, they also released
"Eight Days a Week"/"I Feel Fine," neither of which was on the album.
Indeed I recall an interview from the period with McCartney (BBC sessions?)
where he characterized the American practice of putting the singles on the
albums as "a bit of a drag."
