Sorry about the 3fer on Cliff Hillis spam folks- one got gummed up in the
works & I thought it was lost so I reposted.

I am fascinated to see the thread about Wal-Mart here on our little mailing
list, as the homogenization of the American landscape is a concern of mine
(hence my monthly Bystander column Unchained)

I also refuse to shop at Wal-Mart for all of the reasons cited,I am glad that
Bobby finds them to be a good employer, but I just cannot shop there .
Personally I had a stint working for the Evil Empire known as Best Buy when they
first moved into Cambridge MA and I will state right here that they were
absolutely the worst company I have ever worked for and I refuse to shop there too.

Funny- I was having this same discussion about Best Buy (because of the
Stones DVDs) AND Walmart with Cliff's brother and his fiancee on Thanksgiving - I
do not think that they ever thought of the issues from another point of view.

I think that the whole thing stems from the "getting things at the lowest
price" mentality - even when that is not a good thing big picture or long term.
As the smaller stores and smaller chains fold under then there will be nowhere
else to go BUT Walmart etc, and when they are the only game in town they can
do whatever they want.

Kinda reminds me of downloading/ major label mergers etc~!

:-)
