Subject Re: Audities Seventh Annual Top 20 Poll - Album list

1. The basic rule of thumb for eligibility is whether the disc was released
somewhere in the world in 2003. Because records come out in one country in
one year and another the next, this allows for some flexibility. However,
if a record was issued two years before 2003 in any country, it shouldn't be
eligible. Also, if the record has made the top 20 of a previous Audities
poll, it is ineligible.

2. Compilations are also ineligible -- a compilation (either single or
multi-artist) is just not the same animal as an album put together by an
artist.

3. The fact that EPs aren't eligible is not a "cop out". Making them
ineligible is not arbitrary -- it's just that an EP isn't a full album.
Since, putting together 4 to 8 songs in roughly 20 minutes or less is not
the same as 9 to 14 songs in 30 - 80 minutes, and, theoretically, making a
great EP should be easier than making a great album, EPs are ineligible --
the comparison with a proper album isn't direct.
The very fact that the distinction is made between the EP and the LP makes
it logical that they merit separate catagories.

4. This is an inexact science -- I'm not trying to make records ineligible
-- I favor inclusiveness. But there has to be some degree of specificity
and common sense at work.

The record I'm wondering what to do with is LET IT BE -- NAKED. Is it a
reissue, and thus ineligible, or can it be considered a different album
entirely from the original. I lean towards the former, but could be
convinced otherwise.
