The official (largely defunct) Gladhands website
doesn't list the 2001 CD re-release of their 1996
cassette release "Brilliant Charade", which is
currently available at Not Lame. Not Lame also shows a
new release called "The Gladhands -- Once Upon A Song:
The Best Of..." but I couldn't find a track listing.
Here's hoping there's some unreleased stuff on there.
Like everything the 'hands recorded, "Brilliant
Charade" kicks ass -- period, paragraph. It's well
worth seeking out. Extra kudos go to Anna Borg for
releasing (on her Tallboy Records label) the best Jeff
Carlson song ever, "All Is Well", a standout track
from the original "Brilliant Charade" release. That
song reduces me to ash every time (as does "As I Go
Along..." from Wow & Flutter).
As for whatever the guys are up to, I know that Doug
Edmonds recently played drums at Sparklefest in a
couple of bands (Velvet, for one, and then another
band with Robbie Rist in it whose name is escaping me
now), and he told be about a year ago that -- while
fatherhood had permanently altered his priorities --
he was still working on music here and there whenever
possible. As for Jeff Carlson, if anyone here knows
how to contact him, I'd love to know *exactly* what
he's up to, musically speaking. He is -- feets up --
my favorite songwriter of the Great Power Pop
Explosion of the Late Nineties.
Gotta go listen to some Gladhands now -- what a great
fucking band.
