ARE YOU SERIOUS is a much better record than IDIOT OPTIMISM, and one of my
favorite pop records, period. Many Big Star fans have been cradling a couple
of boots which are really a dump of Ardent Studio sessions, some of which
formed the basis of that first record. I have enjoyed the Hoehn/VanDuren
records (Tommy Hoehn, whose LOSING YOU TO SLEEP was also a good period
record) but that first VanDuren platter was special. Then again, all the Big
Sound stuff is tremendous fun - Roger C Reale's RADIOACTIVE still rocks like
few other records can.
If you contact Trod Nossel studios in Connecticut, the owner is the same guy
who produced/owned all the Big Sound stuff and supposedly still has some of
the original vinyl to sell.
Now where's my Hilly Michaels reissues?
