Zero 7's "Simple Things" was my absolute fave last year. It's rare that I
obsess on an album, but that one really got under my skin. Beautiful
textures, but more importantly, it's got a real organic vibe, with actual
acoustic instruments -- strings, horns, jangly guitars -- not cold,
heartless blips and bleeps (which do have their place of course). And some
of the guest vocals are really killer. I hope the fact that they happened
to hit right at the crest of the "moody, loungy electronica" wave doesn't
mean we won't hear more from them.
