When I worked in retail, in the early 90's, our muzak service played
some great stuff! They played nearly every track from Freedy Johnston's
"This Perfect World" CD (which is still my favorite album of the 90's -- I
still remember buying it and bringing it home and not realizing that I'd been
hearing songs from it almost every day. At least the first 7 songs in a row
were played on a regular rotation.

I first heard Matthew Sweet's "Time Capsule" there.. Also "The Lemon Tree" by
Fools Garden got a lot of airplay. They would also play things
like Don McLean's "Castles In The Air", Squeeze's "Tempted"
(as well as 4 or 5 solo songs by Paul Carrack). I discovered a lot of
great music there.
