Sorry I chime in so late sometimes, but I'm on digest mode and I only get to
go through the list once or twice a week. I was really into prog until I
heard Graham Parker's "Squeezing Out Sparks." Mostly, all that noodling
seemed like stoner crap to me after hearing "Sparks." Anyway, there are
still some favs left over:
1. Pink Floyd "Animals" maybe the angriest most cynical thing I've ever
heard. Gilmore's guitar.
2. Yes "Fragile" I've said it before, but Bruford on this just blows me
away. I could do without Roundabout.
3. Peter Gabriel (the first one) I don't really know why, I just love it all
the way through
4. Yes "Close to the Edge" I still know the lyrics to this by heart, but I
can't, for the life of me, figure out what the hell it means.
5. Genesis "Wind and Wuthering" It seemed like they were trying more to be
prog-pop and it was working. Then they moved to pop-prog with "And then
there were Three:" and I was outta there.
6. Jethro Tull "Benefit" I always thought "Aqualung" was a poor substitute
for this one. In fact, with all the Jurassic Rock stations flogging aqualung
and Thick as a Brick, I've grown to hate both of them. I can still stomach
"Songs from the Wood" too.
7. King Crimson "In the Court of the Crimson King"
8. Yes "Tormato" songs about whales and the rapture. How much more prog does
it get?
9. ELP "Trilogy" Love the show tune
10. Alan Parsons Project "Tales of Mystery and Imagination"
And that's it. Not much of a Top 15. I still pull out King Crimson's
"Starless and Bible Black" every now and again.
