I think that the term "prog" is as misleading as "pop" or "power pop" - but
let's not open THAT can of worms again. There's a lot of strong melodic
stuff in the prog field, and when suggested that Jellyfish is prog - why the
hell not? Their music is definitely more complex than the average popster,
and prog is certainly if nothing else complex. Triumvirat is an interesting
choice to bring up considering that they recorded a cover of "Darlin'" on
their A LA CARTE album. Spock's Beard is definitely a strange (in a good
way) prog/pop hybrid, and I'll happily listen to them because of it.

Spirit doesn't strike me as prog, more of a jazz/jam vibe, but again, the
complexity of some of their stuff could suggest prog. Hell, Yes used to
play "I'm Down" as an encore (with no crazy filigrees or odd meters added),
and had a Yes-centric arrangement of "Every Little Thing" on their first
album.

Being a "schooled" keyboardist, I can't help but like the technique of prog,
but I love it when it's applied to good tunes. Gimme catchy tunes with
talented players!
