You might say that R.Dean Taylor is the true Great White Northern Soul 
singer....a Canadian who struck it rich as a staff writer for Motown (he 
penned "Love Child" for the Supremes, and a number of Temptations songs 
whose titles escape me at the moment). As a solo artist, he was relegated to 
the Motown's Rare Earth label, but still managed to put out some fine 
white-guy soul.
