Stewart,
You are correct on this issue and I apologize in front of the entire class
(because that is where I misread Mark's comment) for attacking him.
Sorry Mark.
As for you ,Stewart, even though it is no excuse I guess I am on the
defensive (which is why I should read the emails more closely) because you
jumped (as usual) right on what was said and stated that what I said was
snarky and unnecessary when the comment in the first place about ignorance
crossing all lines was the snark volley and you disregarded or dismissed
that entirely.
Heaven help us all if you ever become a judge.

The point of my original comment is that Billy was sarcastically ridiculed
by Carolina for a harmless reminiscence.
And for what it is worth (like it or not) usage has very much so determined
meaning in this semantics issue of the word Hispanic.
And I am not even going to bother commenting on Carolina's republic comment
beyond this. I will leave that to our more jingoistic members.

I now turn the list back over to Stewart and his regularly scheduled
pedanticism. :).

The humor here is multifaceted and delicious:

1. The person who wrote what Mark was responding to is Carolina, not Brian
from the Oohs.

2. Nowhere in Mark's message does he claim that he's quoting you. What
seems to be confusing you is that your name was in the subject
line...because Carolina had put it there. Mark simply hit reply on
Carolina's initial email, whose subject line had your name in it.

So you made a basic reading comprehension error, and then compounded it by
misattributing the quote in the first place. And yet somehow MARK is the
one who needs to read his mail carefully????

Seriously, dude. This is freakin' hilarious, to the point that I'm
starting to wonder if this level of cluelessness is some kind of put-on.
