of his actions, but i think that he is definitely
spiritually sick. i think that he was warped in
childhood (again, doesn't absolve him of his
actions...but his dad certainly seems to have done a
number on him) due to an abusive home life and a
fantastical upbringing of wealth and celebrity.

combine that with a healthy dose of what i perceive to
be mental illness (total disassociation/break from
reality -- fantasy worlds, plastic surgeries, phobias
re: germs, etc., the list goes on...) and you've got
someone who really isn't living in a world that we can
conceive of. maybe he touches these kids
inappropriately and thinks he's being loving. maybe he
thinks he's 'playing' with them (remember how as kids,
we played 'doctor'??). again, i in NO way, think this
makes this right, or does no damage to these kids or
makes this not confusing or harmful to them. however,
it seems to be one way to explain what planet this guy
seems to be living on.

the other thing is....our society allows this sort of
behavior to go on by allowing the ultra rich and
famous to have extreme 'eccentricities' even when they
start to cross dangerous borders --- borders where we
would normally start to question someone's mental
health and maybe get them serious psychiatric help.
(also see: howard hughes...) we excuse them and allow
them to continue because they are rich and
celebrities. what if we didn't allow him his exotic
animals and playlands that might contribute to the
alluring atmosphere to a 12 year old and his parents?
what if people didn't pander to someone's phobias and
merely treated them with the same regard that we would
any other sick person? what if we didn't allow
someone to pay off their debt to society in dollars
instead of through the proper channels of the justice
system that you and i have to play by? something tells
me that things like this wouldn't have a chance to get
near as far if our society didn't let fame and fortune
warp our perception of people beyond any semblance of
a balanced 'reality.'

my .04,
jocelyn
