This is apropos of not much, but X frontman John Doe owes his acting agent a
muffin basket. I saw him on TV three times in one week.
The first was on HBO's fascinating/frustrating CARNIVALE, where Doe played a
recruiter of backwoods human oddities. He delivered one of my favorite lines
of dialogue this year: "We freak-finders have to stick together!" A new
Audities slogan, perhaps?
He also showed up on LAW AND ORDER, on one of that show's typical "ripped
from the headlines" stories (that is, "ripped OFF from the headlines"), this
one being a riff on the Great White club fire. He played the scuzzy leader
of a has-been hard rock combo whose bass player got toasted in a special
effect gone wrong.
Doe was also on some show with that girl from that movie. Hey, I was in a
bar, the TV was far away with the sound turned down, and my companions were
more interesting than the tube. I have no further details on that one.
I don't even watch that much TV, so who knows where else he turned up.
