The new Pills disc shows that they are progressing well, thank you very
much. The first disc was mod/punk blasting energy, with a few songs only
getting by on that energy, but, all-in-all, a nice debut. The second album
showed the songwriting getting more consistent and the band harnessing its
power. This effort just continues the process -- what is great is that
mature without draining the rock from their sound. Some echoes of their
buzzier past mix in with some fine power pop, a few tunes that fit somewhere
between The Jam and early Joe Jackson and a couple songs that remind me a
lot of The Smugglers.
A Pills/Ted Leo tour would be bitchin' to the nth degree --
