As a big Grand Funk fan (I can even see a copy of "An American Band", the
Billy James bio, on a nearby bookshelf), even I have to admit they are an
acquired taste most suited for hard rock fans. The first few records are horribly
produced, and the songs aren't much to write home about (although I love many of
them, such as "Sin's A Good Man's Brother".) Their first record I can
recommend is "E Pluribus Funk", which has a much better sound and the songs started
to improve. Other than that I would only recommend to a novice the two Todd R
produced records, "We're An American Band" and "Shinin' On".

But if you want to talk about noise and distortion, their first live record
is it! And I still like their version of "Inside Looking Out" from that record
better than the Animals' version!
