Yeah, "Reality Check" and "Stranger Than Fiction" are 2001-2003
direct-to-disc toons specifically for the home market that are tied into the
www.looneytunes.com website (which also has over 20 free on-line games for
the youngsters to play).
My son and I rented the "Stranger Than Fiction" disc which has 19 shorts on
it....split into three different themes that have some brilliant updated
continuity gags (that pay homage to the Golden Age Toons); the first set of
episodes is Daffy Duck hosting his own "Unexplained Mysteries" show which
covers everything from Elmer Fudd being abducted by aliens to Sylvester The
Cat stumbling into Sasquatch; the next set features episodic looks at
different Looney Tunes characters who are guests at the Mallard Hotel -- for
those true Looney Tune buffs out there you'll remember that the Mallard was
featured in a late '30's Bugs Bunny episode where he and Daffy Duck were
vagrants who managed to avoid getting evicted for not having any money; and
finally a three-part Planet Of The Apes spoof called "Planet Of The Taz",
"Return To The Planet Of The Taz" and "Enough With The Planet Of The
Taz"....featuring Daffy and Porky in their Duck Dodgers guise stranded on an
all-Tazmanian Devil planet. Bonus points for casting a Sean Connery sound
alike in place of the Roddy McDowell Taz....and a recurring subplot
featuring Charlton Heston and dialogue from "Soylent Green".
My only complaint about the package is obviously the missing Mel
Blanc....and the artwork is 100% CGI...looking a rather stilted in my
estimation.
