This is apparently very true, or at least it was a
couple of years back when Matthews was at his biggest
in the U.S. BMG spent a fortune to work the DMB to UK
"student radio." They actually had a competition in
which they asked British students to create 10 minute
documentaries on the Dave man himself, with the
winners receiving an all expenses paid MONTH in the US
to work at a student/community radio station here. My
station was chosen to host the three winners, and we
had a blast with them. All three had quite a time
bashing Matthews, talking about how much they hated
his music, and how they had only entered the
competition to win the trip. They were required to go
see the band at Soldier Field with a camera crew in
tow, and had to feign excitement (or at least
interest) in order to make their label funders happy!
