I stayed up late on Monday to watch Cheap Trick on Conan. It was a
repeat, but I must have missed it this summer.
The weird and very annoying thing was: just after the monologue, the
band broke into Blackberry Way!! I thought this is great, and a nod to
CT. As soon as the band finished , Conan barked at the guitarist. He
started on a long tirade about that being the worst song he ever heard,
and threatened to fire the guitarist if he ever heard it again. All the
while in the stupid non funny manic mode that he uses so often in place
of humor. The guitarist tried to explain that it was the Move but Conan
didn't seem to understand, and continued for at least three or four
minutes.
To make matters worse, CT weren't all that good. They played fine, but
the song didn't have any guitar hooks or anything to make it stand out.
REM on Leno last night was much better. Stipe used his time on the couch
to make a couple of political jabs at O'Riely and Bush. Leno just sort
of guffawed through it, being the lunk head he is.
Oh well, back to music
