I'm saddened by anyone's death, and sad for all of you who were fans. Like most
of you, I've had friends and family who suffer depression and it's just no fun
for those who have to watch. Suicide is such an awful thing, even just the
threat can torture those around an ill person.

My friend Deke Leonard was good friend with Badfinger. He's talked to me about
the deaths of Pete Ham and Tom Evans. He described Pete Ham's suicide as "a
gesture to a manager who didn't care what he did". He also said he couldn't
face "a second Badfinger funeral".

It's too late to be mad at Elliott Smith or try and figure out why he would do
such a horrible thing. All you can do is take a look around at all your
friends, and and enjoy good health and their company.
