I would always go to allmusic.com to get my "liner notes" for e-music
downloads.
They usually can give you a rough idea of who play/wrote what and you can
search a song to see who else has recorded it.
That said, I discontinued my subscription to E-Music after almost 3 years.
They seem to be getting more and more restrictive, while having less & less
content. Whatever happened to all the UMG stuff that was on there? Is
Epitaph or Vagrant adding any new releases anymore?
I signed up with Rhapsody & so far I'm very happy. I don't have the
unlimited downloads, but I also don't have the storage issues [hard drive &
shelf space]. I probably spend $50+ a week on CDs - many of them are just
out of curiosity. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to sell any CDs,
because I often rediscover something months or years later. Now I can
"listen before I buy" and decide if I really need to own something or if I
just want to know what's out there. You can create & save playlists, save
albums to a library & burn songs @ 79 cents a pop - I don't plan on doing
that, unless I happen to create an incredible mix/playlist that I want to
take with me. Since I listen to most of my music on my computer, I've found
this new format to be ideal. I probably saved about $100 already this
month...which pays for my cable-internet connection.
Re-reading the above, I didn't mean that to sound like such a sales pitch.
I'm just pleased & trying to spread the word to any other ex-EMusic-ians out
there.
