Point of information: He was treated. He has owned up to being on
antidepressants and antipsychotics, and in rehab, which probably included
psychiatric support. (FWIW, I think his dad's a psychiatrist or has some
occupation in the mental health area.)
They have some great psych meds now, but they're not panaceas. They
can't cure everybody. And there are some people who could be cured if
they had other things in their favor, like an unrelenting support system,
which they lack.
My point is that even people with TREATED mental illness can lack control
over their actions / choices.
