All this for only $7.99 at Best Buy. I was pretty much sold just by the
track listing, but once I read on AllMusic.com that Sturmer, Wilde (and Phil
Solem), Dando, and Wilson were on board, it was an absolute gimme. Having
given virtually every track a cursory listen now, I can definitely say that
it's worth dropping the bucks. No, it's not the best covers album since
"Pin-Ups," despite what Spin says...but it's certainly more than anyone
could've expected from a peer of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
It's the most subversive teen-pop album in ages. God willing, it'll sell
several million copies and introduce today's 12 year old girls to the world
of the Waterboys, XTC, Joe Jackson, John Hiatt, Blondie, and, yes, Joan
Armatrading. Hell, *I* don't know much about Joan Armatrading, but, after
hearing "Drop The Pilot" by Mandy, I'm ready to invest in a best-of...!
Latah,
WILL
