I heard that term somewhere on a radio website or spectropop - Now I wished I
hadnt put that in!

My apologies to you and Michael. I worked in radio for 17 years and after
using
SAW and Sound Forge to create commericals and promos I never want to splice
another reel, copy tape-to-tape (creating a bunch of hiss) or mess around with
a 4-track multitrack deck ever again. I couldnt clean up old vinyl and ancient
tape recordings and airchecks without it at home.

On the other hand - I have heard so many 60's-70's artists who tried to
embrace
new recording technology in the 80's to today, and made thier music sound
lifeless and mechanical because they decided to replace a band or live
overdubbing with Midi, samples and drum machines. Too many record companies
sign medicore talent and then use the same technology to make "pefect"
recordings. Today's CHR and country radio sounds like everyone is been using
the same recording studio, a far cry when you could tell by using your
educated
ears that a record was recorded in Gold Star, Western/United, Capitol, Chess
Studio, Bradley's Barn, RCA Nashville or Abbey Road in the 60's.

The Tom's 1979 album is a classic piece of analog 4-track homemade pop I
thought any attempt to replicate the sound and feel of it with digital
equipment would be a distaster. Thats what I was complaining about.
