The October 2003 Fufkin.com page is up. This month we have the following
record reviews:
Mike Bennett presents full length reviews of the newest releases from
Beulah, Hawksley Workman, Sloan, Tallulah, The Pearlfishers and Shelby
Lynne. Mike also has capsule reviews of The Bitter Little Cider Apples,
Jericho, The Trouble Dolls, Jess Stone, Ola Framby, Flux A.D., a compilation
from Shelflife Records, The Black Watch and The Raveonettes.
Gary Glauber reviews the latest from Chris von Sneidern, The Pulltops, The
Deal, The Naomi Star and Lazy.
We welcome James Baumann (who some may know from swizzle-stick.com). James
reviews the new Teenage Fanclub compilation and new releases from The Tyde,
Soundtrak and Grand Champeen.
And Shona Winfrey returns with reviews of A Perfect Circle, Ken Andrews, The
Saving Graces and The Windbreakers retrospective.
Fufkin.com eulogizes one of the all-time great figures in American music,
Johnny Cash. Nick Zaino, III, penned a pointed tribute to The Man In Black,
and recommends a variety of Cash releases. Gary Pig Gold gives Ten Reasons
Why Johnny Cash Always Matters. Amen.
Michael Lynch looks at classic rock with a jaundiced eye, as he lists 10
playlist staples that dont do much for him. A good discussion starter.
In this months column, Mike Bennett opens up a can of worms to look at
Wilco, The Flaming Lips and Radiohead in the context of the individual
talents of the band members and in comparison to great bands of the past. A
good discussion killer, he thinks.
Rick Bilous interviews Rich Painter. Painters band, Rich Creamy Paint, may
be unfortunately named, but put out a sadly overlooked debut album on a
major label a few years ago. RCPs new one is out, and Rick meets Rich,
mano-a-mano to hash things out.
Robert Pally has an interview with a major figure of rocks past. The
intrepid Swiss rock journalist tracked down Bob Keane, the man behind Del-Fi
records (who worked with Richie Valens, Bobby Fuller Four and others), who,
as you can imagine, has some things to say.
There are two ways you can read Eric Sorensens new installment of Further
Observations of a Jangly Music Fan. You can begin at the beginning, and read
his take on a slew of new releases, including efforts from The Singles, The
Shorewoods, The Chesterfield Kings, Lovetap and a whole lot more. Or, if
you want some history, scroll down to his list of great 12-string guitar
artists of the 70s.
Kevin Mathews calls his column So Much Music...So Little Time. To prove it,
he gives his take on 15 new releases, including Buva, Stereo360,
Coppersonic, The Ghost, Paul Hyde, and, if youve been counting, 10 more.
We hope you can visit us at Fufkin.com.
