Okay, Strokes talk for minute, please.

They're not pop, but I just heard an advance of the new Strokes
album.....and let it be known, "Is It It?" was definitely IT for me, being
one of my very favorite records of the last few years. Plenty on this list
who don't care a rip for this band, but as I recall, quite a few who do.

Now, this new one?

It's a fricking DUD. Everyone messed up on this one, *big time*(and heads
should roll)...begins w/ the band, goes the manager who did not get them
time off the road to write even half-decent songs and the record label's
A&R guy(a veteran who should know better!) who just mis-managed the entire
affair.

Prediction: this band will be broken up and toast by end of 2004 because
despite what NME said last week(gave it a 9 out of 10.....talk about having
a band in yr pocket!), this is a sad, child-like, completely panicked
mimicking of the first album with not one single song off the new one being
good enough to replace even one song off their debut.

It's all pleasant enough, but this is the Strokes. They have been lifted
up, by the sad likes of, er, *me* as being something extra-special(and many
thousands of others)......And they have had 2 since the debut came out to
do something worth holding up as being, at the least, as good as their
debut. Or half as good. This, this a fractional, fractured experience.

Both albums together, it's a reversed experience----- this new one, should
have been their debut...and "Is This It?" the follow up where the band took
flight.

The US press is going to crucify this one, I'm guessing...the fawning UK
press, will toe variations of what NME has set forth.

We'll see, but by far, the biggest disappointment of the year for me. Now,
we all know why it took so long for this to come out and why it had been
recorded, re-recorded so many times.

Moby Grape for Double Naught Generation.

Can you say rehab?

Peace,
Bruce @ Not Lame Recordings
