Neil Diamond has a new boxed set out, all live material. Four CDs + 1 DVD.
Apparently it's drawn from live shows spanning 1970 to 2002.

Now, I think Diamond's 1972 "Hot August Night" is one of the all time great
live albums. But I don't think any of his other live albums are all that
hot (some are downright dismal). And I saw him around 1989-1990 on the basis
of Hot August Night and was sorely disappointed. Very schmaltzy, lots of
"let the audience sing the chorus" stuff, and his voice wasn't all that
great.

OK, so the question is: Is this boxed set any good? BestBuy.com has it for
$30 shipped, which is cheap enough for 4 CDs + 1 DVD. But if it's going to
be mostly recent vintage stuff, I'm inclined to figure it's a pass. Unless
someone here has heard it and can suggest otherwise.

And to those of you who say that the ONLY Diamond worth owning came out on
Bang...you're wrong :-)
