I am a huge Elvis fan. I had gotten my hands on a copy
of North about a month ago and was very disappointed in it. As was stated by someone
else, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I decided not to pick it up when it was released. After reading some reviews and others
thoughts on the COSTELLO list, I figured for 11.99 and a bonus DVDVDwhy not.
I listened to it 3 times yesterday at work, and while it will never be my favorite
EC work, I have to respect him for following his muse. I had initially thought the
album sounded like his work with BaBacharachithout the rich melodies and arrangements
that Burt brought to the project. Then yesterday I realized he is dedefinitelyoing for
a different angle than PAINTED.
There are some beautiful moments on North such as WHEN DID I STOP DREAMING, LET ME
TELL YOU ABOUT HER and WHEN GREEN EYES TURN BLUE. I have always felt that Elvis
wanted to be a modern day Gershwin, with North he really tries hard.
North is as mellow as I have ever heard EC, but it is growing on me.
have to tune into Live by Request tonight at 10pm on A&E. Should be interesting.
