RE Phantom Planet "Big Brat"
M.J. O'Brien had written that they didn't like the new PP single, so
I went to
http://www.epicrecords.com/artistontherise/phantomplanet.html and
listened to it for myself.

M.J. called it a "sloppy, jagged and barely melodic tune... Very
disappointing!" and then asked "is the song as weak as I think it is?"

Well to be honest M.J. I don't agree. I think it's got a great
Kinks meet Stranglers meets mid period Blur quality to it. Very
immediate, rhythmic and there IS a tuneful singalong in the "you're
always up to no good" refrain. Nice handclaps too, loved the fuzzy
guitars and talk / sung verse (anyone hear a Mark E Smith quality in
the vocal?
Sure it's a departure from that California song (theme from the O.C.)
but it's still way more alive than more than half of the numetal
crazzap (good charlotte) that passes for rock these days.

So count me as a vote FOR the new Phantom Planet.
