Two old albums I can think of..

Mighty Baby - It's one of those records that got pressed but then the label went
bust or something. I only ever saw one promo. Years later is showed up in the cut
out bins. Fantastic raga guitar album with Martin Stone doing the heavy lifting.
This is the album that was recorded after the Action, Rolled Gold demos.

Sweet Thursday- which was Jon Mark and Nicky Hopkins. This was on Tetragrammation,
which also seem to have gone bust about the time it was released. It was one of
those early 70's sought after items. When it finally got reissued, everyone found
out how awful it was and it was quickly forgotten. (the John's Children Orgasm album
falls into the same category on both counts.)

Derek And The Dominoes - the single of Tell The Truth/Roll It Over was pressed as a
promo but then with drawn at the last minute. I found two copies in a box marked
"garbage" at a commercial radio station I worked at. This version was the Phil
Spector version, recorded during the sessions for All Things Must Pass. Great
single. The Flamin' Groovies used to cover this.

On the newer end, the first Flaming Lips album on Warner, Hit It To Death was around
as a promo for like 9 months before Warners finally decided to put it out. There was
even a version with "the collectors scum cover". I don't know if this was a mock up
while they worked out a real cover or what.

In this day and age, there are probably loads of albums that are recorded and
pressed and then stopped when the bands A&R person got fired/quit
