Friends:
AP has just reported that the author and editor George Plimpton has died at the age of 76. For those of us (like me) for whom the Paris Review loomed as a huge influence, this is a tremendous loss for the world of letters.
The sad thing is, I just read an interview with him in The Guardian two weeks ago where Plimpton spoke animatedly of how much he was enjoying the journal's 50th anniversary.
