Actually-- kidding aside-- I think Fogerty won the case; he brought a guitar
to court the day of his testimony in order to demonstrate that the songs he
penned for CCR owed as much to say Little Richard as "Old Man" owed to
"Green River."
I believe his CCR catalogue was owned by Saul Zaentz and Fantasy Records--
Saul being the subject of the song on Centerfield "Zantz Can't Dance" ("but
he'll steal your money/ watch him or he'll rob you blind.") That was the
most ludicrous copyright suit.
He had been steadfastly refusing to play CCR songs in concert-- to the
consternation of attendees-- until (the legend goes) Dylan and he appeared
together at a benefit or something and Dylan wanted to play "Proud Mary."
"You should play those songs" Dylan said to him. "They're good songs."
