No..not to his brother but I believe to the owner of Fantasy Records who had
them locked into a ridiculous contract which essentially killed the band for
many years until John was able to get out of it or the time lapsed.

Yes! And he lost the case for ripping off his own song!!! That was the
most ridiculous one I've ever come across. But, he had signed away all
his rights to the songs (to his brother I believe right?). It just goes
to show that you need to be careful when signing those contracts.
