Crenshaw's "Cynical Girl" owes more than a passing nod to "Everyday" as
well.
Remember the Stones' song "Anybody Seen My Baby"? The chorus was entirely
reminiscent of the k.d.lang/Ben Mink song "Constant Craving." Sufficiently
so that the Stones actually gave a songwriting credit to lang and Mink, much
to their surprise.
Sammy Llanas (BoDeans) wrote in the liner notes to Black and White that the
inspiration for "Naked" was that he wanted to write a song with the same
chords as Tom Petty's "Runaway Trains." No writing credit for Petty was
forthcoming, I don't think, homage notwithstanding.
Thee are a ton of these. Didn't John Fogerty totally rip off Creedence
Clearwater Revival on "The Old Man Down the Road"?
