Not sure where your prostitution analogy applies here. The story you linked
is a typical first-person "My Turn" piece that a lot of news outlets run
regularly. This one happens to be from a guy directly affected by a
currently hot-topic phenomenon, making it a legitimate hook for such a
story.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a contrary piece --either on CNN or
any other major news outlet-- from someone who continues to steal music
despite the ongoing lawsuits.
